Aluminum cans were collected all year by “Cans for Kids,” a recycling effort spearheaded by young philanthropist Alyssa Herbig, age 10, to generate money to support cancer care at the Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin. United Milwaukee Scrap donated the containers, recycled the cans, and provided a matching donation for the organization to buy Santa hats for the hospital’s annual Winter Carnival in December. The holiday event is hosted just before Christmas, with entertainment, food, and a visit by Santa to the children of the hospital.
